MTV

Never really thought I'd be posting about MTV. But, then again, I'm a child of the 80's so MTV grew up with me. What brought this up? I have no idea, only I was surfing with the remote and landed on MTV and wondered what happened to all the music videos. No more Martha Quinn or Alan Hunter or hours and hours straight of videos. And that got me thinking.

Anyone else remember the Basement Tapes competition? I loved those, and my absolute favorite was the winner, Dog Police! Then, through the wonder of Yahoo, a single search led me directly to Sam Shoup. 'Sam Shoup?' Yes, Sam Shoup.
Now part of the 'Praise Band' Triplthret, he won the MTV Basement Tapes competition with Dog Police. Amazing. Way to go, Sam!

Godspeed

From USA Today, an article about those who chose to die by jumping to their deaths rather than passively suffer the heat, smoke and flames:

"The jumping started shortly after the first jet hit at 8:46 a.m. People jumped continuously during the 102 minutes that the north tower stood. Two people jumped as the north tower began to fall at 10:28 a.m., witnesses said.

For those who jumped, the fall lasted 10 seconds. They struck the ground at just less than 150 miles per hour — not fast enough to cause unconsciousness while falling, but fast enough to ensure instant death on impact. People jumped from all four sides of the north tower. They jumped alone, in pairs and in groups."

September 11

I bought a yahrzeit candle the other day.

A yahrzeit candle, for those who don’t know, is defined by The Britannica Concise as:

“In Judaism, the anniversary of the death of a parent or close relative, commonly observed by burning a candle for an entire day. On that day, the Kaddish is recited in the synagogue and the Torah is read. Some mark the anniversary by studying portions of the Mishna, choosing those sections from the sixth division that begin with letters from the name of the deceased. Yahrzeit developed from an early Jewish custom of fasting on the anniversaries of deaths of certain leaders, and some Jews still fast on this day.”

No deaths in my immediate or extended family caused me to pull out my Visa and buy this little white candle in it’s small glass shell. But that candle will burn all day next Wednesday anyway.

Just as every American reacted differently to the attacks last year, we will all mourn in our separate ways. Some will curl up alone and meditate or pray or simply watch TV, as numb this year as last. Some will congregate in large groups, singing songs of faith or grace or hope or, simply, patriotism. That morning I will be with my son and his day care as they teach a group of 3-year-olds the Pledge of Allegiance and sing God Bless America, America the Beautiful, and the Star Spangled Banner. That night I will go to a local Church of God to pray and to reflect and to share the day with my community. Work will be a series of conversations which concentrate on those who died and those who murdered them, with very little work actually being done, I’d imagine.

Tomorrow night I’ll be in Temple as Rosh Hashanah begins, followed in days by Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement. A new year is beginning.

This war will not end with US forces in Baghdad. Not even with Marines in Riyadh. This war ends when there is safety for all, without limits on freedom or civil rights. This war ends when we acknowledge who our enemy is. We are told that the first step to solving a problem is to admit you have one. The first step in defeating our enemy is to name our enemy, to accept that, like Hitler before, appeasement will fail, horribly. Our enemy will be laughing at us next Wednesday, they will be celebrating September 11. Our enemy is not terrorism. Terrorism is a means of fighting a war, it is not, and never has been, a group of people or a nation committing and supporting acts of terror. Our enemy is Islamic Jihadists. And, it is necessary to accept the fact that Islamic Jihadists now control Islam.

September 11, 2002 should be a day of mourning.

So that September 12, 2002 can be a day of action.

So that September 13, 2002 will be a day of victory.

So that September 11 next year, and every year thereafter, never becomes, as the Palestinians showed so callously last year, a day of celebration.

Saudi State Department

Joel Mowbray strikes yet another much needed blow against the Saudia controlled US State Department. He asks, at the end of an article that everyone needs to read:

"...(H)ow can we trust our own State Dept to protect us when it willingly sacrifices the lives of two American citizens at the altar of its unholy alliance with the Saudis?"

This has gone too far, it's time to clean house!

Quiz

While most of these online quizzes I find rather amusing, this one just annoyed me. The questions are either designed to confuse or designed to trap the quiz-taker. Either way, it's annoying. Though, I must say, it did get me right (though I had to answer false to practically every single question)...

You are a straight man.

E. Nough Does Idiotarians

The illustrious Little Green Footballs has yet another brilliant post reposted here in its entirety:

"If you've ever come to a protest without your clothes...
If you spell America with K's while writing in English...
If you think the United Nations is a bona fide governing body...
If you believe that the U.S. deserved to be attacked on 9/11 for its policies around the globe...
If you believe that Zionism is a form of racism...
If your main form of protest is destruction of property...
If you actually used the phrase "coming home to roost" in the past year...
If you think that a "global corporation" is evil by definition...
If you believe that "all property is theft"...
If you refer to Noam Chomsky as a "dissident"...
If you think that the proper response to terrorism is to "understand" the "root causes" of "Muslim discontent"...
If you think that the U.S. is a terrorist state...
If you think that Israel is a colonial power...
If you think that "world peace" will be accomplished by happy songs and "anti-war resolutions"...
If you honestly think that there is no connnection whatsoever between Islam and terrorism...
If you are a member of any organization with "Socialist," "Communist," "Marxist," "Leninist," "Aryan," or "Revolutionary Council" in its title...
If you seriously believe that there is a "corporate ruling class"...
If you think all cultures are equivalent, and there is no moral difference between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia...
If you are convinced that some six million J-E-W-S are in control of the United States, a nation of 280 million people...
If your primary form of protest involves large puppets...
If you would rather watch people starve than let them eat genetically modified "Frankenfoods"...
If you have ever harmed people in order to protest testing on animals...
If you believe that the post-9/11 appearance of American flags is a sign of "jingoism"...
If you have ever worn sheets in public, and it wasn't Halloween...
If you have ever held up a "People's Republic" as an example for the West to follow.
If you equate strong criticism or public disgust with censorship and "McCarthyism"...
If your main form of protest involves stupid slogans that were old by 1969...
If you really think that the 9/11 attacks were God's punishment for our "deviant ways"...
If you refer to terrorists strictly as "militants" or "activists"...

...You might be an idiotarian"

Introducing IsraPundit

Since there will only be one post this fine Labor Day (which, by the way, finds me AT WORK...) I figured I'd make it count. This is Israpundit:

"You've heard of the Guardian, the Independent, Robert Fiskand the Palestinian Authority? IsraPundit is the antidote."

Highly recommended!
